Overview
Adam's background covers military operations, nonprofit management, civic leadership, Scouting, Coast Guard Auxiliary service, writing, podcasting, independent web publishing, preparedness, spiritual inquiry, and paranormal investigation. He is based between the Hampton Roads area of Virginia and Middle Tennessee.
The thread connecting most of it is practical service. He prefers doing things that are useful over things that look good on paper.
Military Service
Adam served 22 years in the U.S. Navy as an Operations Specialist and retired at the rank of Chief Operations Specialist, OSC(SW). His career included watchstanding, operational planning, maritime operations, training and qualification, and service in joint environments across multiple regions.
The SW designator reflects Surface Warfare qualifications. He also served in the Navy Reserve and held additional collateral duties throughout his career.
Professional Work
Adam currently works as a government contractor supporting military analysis and joint planning functions. His professional work has included assessments, exercise support, lessons learned processes, and analytical products in joint and interagency environments.
Through AHinds.org, he provides nonprofit consulting focused on operations, governance, volunteer management, board development, and organizational systems. Most of his clients are small nonprofits and volunteer-heavy organizations that need functional infrastructure more than they need a strategy deck.
Nonprofit and Civic Service
Adam serves on several nonprofit boards and volunteers with community organizations in both Virginia and Tennessee. His civic work spans youth development, public safety, education, and community service. He has completed graduate work in conflict management.
He holds the following professional credentials:
Scouting America
Adam serves as a District Commissioner in Scouting America. Commissioner work focuses on unit health, adult volunteer support, training, and helping Scout units function well. He works with unit commissioners, unit leaders, and district teams to address problems before they become reasons a unit folds.
His Scouting interests include outdoor skills, youth development, and the practical side of running a successful volunteer organization.
U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary
Adam serves in the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, where he has held flotilla leadership positions and worked in vessel examination, public affairs, and international affairs and liaison functions. The Auxiliary's work covers boating safety, public education, and support to the active-duty Coast Guard.
Boating safety is one of those things people take seriously only after they needed to and didn't.
Writing and Media
Adam publishes essays and commentary at The Chaos Section, covering politics, religion, technology, culture, service, and community. He hosts The Adam Hinds Show and co-produces in.pencil with Jess, a YouTube creative project.
His writing is independent. It does not represent any employer, branch of service, nonprofit, or civic organization he is affiliated with.
Paranormal and Spiritual Interests
Adam is the founder of Hampton Roads Paranormal, a Virginia-based paranormal investigation project. His interest in paranormal and Fortean topics connects to broader interests in psychical research, consciousness, and unexplained phenomena approached with some degree of rigor.
On the spiritual side, his interests include perennial philosophy, religious history, mysticism, and independent inquiry. He is not affiliated with any single denomination or tradition.
Web Projects
Adam maintains a network of independent websites covering his professional work, writing, media, and interests. These are his platforms. He does not rely on any single social media company to host his public presence.
